A calmer weekly shop for two.
Choose the dinners first, combine the quantities and give fresh ingredients a sensible place in the week.
Choose three dinners before five
Start with the number of evenings you will realistically cook at home. Add a quick cupboard dinner for a late evening. Leave space for plans to change.
Group ingredients by place in the shop
Combine duplicate ingredients and separate produce, chilled food, cans and cupboard staples. Keep quantities in consistent units. Cross off what you already have before leaving home.
Keep the cold chain short
Buy chilled and frozen items toward the end of the trip and get them into suitable storage promptly. Keep raw meat and seafood contained and separate from ready-to-eat food. Store refrigerated food at 40°F / 4°C or below.
Plan around freshness
Use the label and storage guidance to decide what to cook first. For a longer plan, buy suitable frozen portions or freeze fresh items promptly while still within their safe storage time. Thaw in the refrigerator according to the product instructions.
Make a ten-minute reset
Before your next shop, look through the refrigerator, check the freezer list and choose a meal that uses what is already there. Small repeatable habits are more useful than an ambitious prep day you never enjoy.
